Some people prefer a more traditional talk therapy approach, while others may find that alternative treatments like neurofeedback therapy can be more effective.

What is Neurofeedback Therapy?

Neurofeedback therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and PTSD. This innovative treatment method helps individuals better understand how their brains work and trains them to regulate their brain waves to improve overall mental and emotional well-being.

During neurofeedback therapy sessions, patients wear electrodes on their scalp that monitor their brainwave activity while engaging in specific tasks or activities. A therapist then uses this data to teach the patient how to adjust their brainwave patterns through guided exercises and visual and auditory feedback.

Neurofeedback therapy has been proven to help individuals reduce symptoms associated with various mental health conditions and improve overall brain function. This unique treatment method is often used in combination with traditional therapy approaches to enhance the effectiveness of treatment and promote lasting healing.

At Connected Brain Counseling, we believe in the power of neurofeedback therapy to transform lives and help individuals achieve their full potential. We offer personalized treatment plans tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient and provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals and couples seeking mental health care in the Highlands neighborhood of Denver.

2. Improved mood: Neurofeedback therapy can help to stabilize mood and reduce symptoms of depression by balancing the brain’s electrical activity.

3. Increased focus and attention: Neurofeedback therapy helps to improve concentration, attention, and focus by enhancing the brain’s ability to filter out distractions.

4. Better sleep quality: Neurofeedback therapy can help to improve the quality and duration of sleep by teaching the brain to enter into a more relaxed state.

5. Reduced symptoms of trauma: Neurofeedback therapy can be particularly effective in treating symptoms of trauma, including flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance.

How Neurofeedback Therapy Works at Connected Brain Counseling

All clients who would like to complete a neurofeedback program start by participating in a qEEG Brain Map (learn more here!). During this time, you therapist will place a cap on your scalp to record brainwave activity. This baseline assessment will give you and your therapist valuable insight into your anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep patterns, ADD and more and therefore inform what parts of your brain need to be trained during neurofeedback sessions.

You will then complete a neurofeedback program that consists of 40-60+ neurofeedback sessions attended 2-3x a week. During this time you will strengthen new neural pathways and create resiliency from the mental health symptoms you once experienced. Through consistent neurofeedback sessions, you can expect to regulate and balance itself, improving overall cognitive function, mood, and behavior.

At Connected Brain Counseling, our goal is to empower individuals and couples to take control of their mental health through customized, in depth and holistic treatment options. Our experienced therapists will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan based on your individual needs and goals. Sydney Focht, MA, LPC

Clinical Director & Counselor

I specialize in working with women in their 20s to 50s who struggle with self-worth, self-esteem, and the guilt that often comes with prioritizing themselves. Finding self-trust and the ability to feel worthy of happiness are common topics in my work. My clients tend to put off therapy because they downplay their struggles, describing their pain as ‘not that big of a deal.’ Many of them grew up in households where expressing emotions wasn’t encouraged and they are still looking for security now. My goal is to create a space where you feel completely free to be yourself—no pressure, no expectations. Therapy with me isn’t about either of us being ‘perfect’—it’s more about you feeling safe, seen, and supported as you figure things out in a way that works for you. I prioritize meaningful conversations that get to the heart of the issue, getting to the root and out of surface level conversation quickly. Going through my own therapy has given me a deeper understanding of what it’s like to be in the client’s seat, and it’s made me even more passionate about helping others find the support that truly works for them. My clients describe me as focused, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and down-to-earth. I truly love what I do and that comes through in my work! I’m a person-centered therapist, but I often integrate elements of Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and IFS.

I support adults and teens (15+) who are ready to find relief from trauma, anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck in life, career, or identity transitions. I especially enjoy working with athletes, creative people, students, and outdoor adventurers who value resilience, beauty, and balance.
