The Role of Brain Mapping for Chronic Fatigue

Understanding Brain Mapping for Chronic Fatigue

Brain mapping involves a non-invasive qEEG scan that records electrical activity in the brain. By identifying patterns linked to underactivity, overactivity, or dysregulation in specific brain regions, clinicians gain insight into how CFS affects an individual’s neurological functioning.

This detailed brain data enables therapists to understand how energy, attention, and emotional regulation may be impacted—an essential step for crafting a targeted therapy plan.

Key Benefits of Brain Mapping for Chronic Fatigue

  • Targeted Diagnosis: Rather than relying on generalized symptom reporting, brain mapping offers objective data to support treatment direction.
  • Improved Energy Regulation: Identifying dysregulated brainwaves helps practitioners focus on enhancing the brain’s energy production and management systems.
  • Cognitive Clarity: Many with CFS experience brain fog. Mapping can help pinpoint the areas responsible and guide interventions to restore mental clarity.
  • Emotional Support: Since chronic fatigue often includes anxiety and depression symptoms, brain mapping also assists in identifying mood-related disruptions that require care.

How the Brain Mapping Process Works

  1. qEEG Assessment: Electrodes are placed on the scalp to record brainwave activity in various regions.
  2. Data Analysis: The recorded data is compared to a normative database to identify abnormal patterns.
  3. Therapy Planning: Based on the map, a customized plan is developed—often involving neurofeedback or other brain-based therapies.
  4. Monitoring Progress: Follow-up maps can measure improvements and guide therapy adjustments.

Who Can Benefit from Brain Mapping ?

  • Individuals with persistent, unexplained fatigue.
  • People who have been diagnosed with CFS and are not finding relief through traditional methods.
  • Patients experiencing brain fog, memory issues, or emotional imbalances related to fatigue.
  • Those seeking a personalized and data-driven recovery approach.

After identifying specific problem areas through brain mapping for chronic fatigue, many clients benefit from neurofeedback therapy. This training technique uses real-time brainwave feedback to help the brain self-regulate and shift toward healthier patterns—improving energy, attention, and emotional stability over time.

Sydney Focht, MA, LPC

Clinical Director & Counselor

I specialize in working with women in their 20s to 50s who struggle with self-worth, self-esteem, and the guilt that often comes with prioritizing themselves. Finding self-trust and the ability to feel worthy of happiness are common topics in my work. My clients tend to put off therapy because they downplay their struggles, describing their pain as ‘not that big of a deal.’ Many of them grew up in households where expressing emotions wasn’t encouraged and they are still looking for security now. My goal is to create a space where you feel completely free to be yourself—no pressure, no expectations. Therapy with me isn’t about either of us being ‘perfect’—it’s more about you feeling safe, seen, and supported as you figure things out in a way that works for you. I prioritize meaningful conversations that get to the heart of the issue, getting to the root and out of surface level conversation quickly. Going through my own therapy has given me a deeper understanding of what it’s like to be in the client’s seat, and it’s made me even more passionate about helping others find the support that truly works for them. My clients describe me as focused, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and down-to-earth. I truly love what I do and that comes through in my work! I’m a person-centered therapist, but I often integrate elements of Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and IFS.
